Divisional commissioner Dilip Band has written to the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and Defence Estates (DE) asking to make their stands clear on the 69.23 acres of land located at survey number 233/A in Vimannagar.

While Band’s letter to the PMC was issued on November 15, the letter to the DE was issued on September 24.

Band told DNA that the land is in the possession of the DE and one Harish Milani has claimed that he is the owner of land and the DE allegedly encroached upon it.

“On the other hand, the DE is claiming that the land belongs to it. They have also lodged a case, which is under investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation,’’ Band said.

According to Band, initially the ministry of defence in a letter said survey number 233/A does not belong to the DE.

Band said his office has written the letter to the DE on September 24 this year and asked if the army has any claim to the land by way of acquisition, requisition or ownership. If so, it should be brought to the notice of revenue officers. “But till date, there is no reply from the DE,’’ he added.

The PMC has acquired a part of the land for developing a road and claimed that it has given compensation to the DE.

Band said there is a lot of confusion in the matter. “If the land does not belong to the DE, how can the PMC claim that it has paid compensation to the DE? There are several contradictions that have to be sorted. Hence, we have asked both the parties to make their stands clear,’’ he said. He said as per revenue records, it is difficult to trace how the land was transferred to the DE. “But the question is, why is Milani claiming the land so late? We are looking into all aspects of the issue,’’ he added.

According to the land acquisition officer of PMC, Sudhakar Telang, when the PMC took possession of the land, it was found that the plot was owned by the DE. “The DE itself give us a valuation of the plot. Hence, the PMC has paid the compensation to the DE,’’ he added.
