Community connect message for Pune school students

Inter-community dialogue was held at New English School, Ramanbaug.

Students of New English School, Ramanbaug, got a wonderful lesson in inter-community dialogue on the occasion of Rishipanchami, which was celebrated as a part of Ganesh festival, in their school on Friday.

The school had organised the programme to introduce the philosophy of different religions and teachings to the students.

Kickstarting the programme, which was attended by experts from different religions, headmaster BS Purandare of New English School, Ramanbaug said, “Emperor Ashoka, 2000 years ago, set up different religions giving each Indian the freedom to study and follow their own religion with great reverence and dignity. We need to follow this by respecting each other’s religions and traditional practices.’’

Speaking about Hinduism, Raghav Shivram Ramdasi said, “We should be looking for wisdom rather than asking god for worldly pleasures.’’  A representative of the Indian Jewish community, Anita Rohekar said, “Our religion does not believe in converting people, but is like the Hindu religion with its offshoots like Christianity, Islam and Bahai religions. Love god with all your soul is the message of the Jews as there is only one god.’’

Acharya Vijay Hemchandra Surishwarj, the representative of the Jain community, highlighted three precepts one should follow to lead a perfect life. “Before committing some indecent act, think that god is looking at you, worship your parents like god and respect and thank your teachers for all the knowledge they share with us,’’ the acharya said.

The Buddhist representative, Bhante Nagghosh said, "The crux of religion is to truly respect each other and no one should let any negative feelings grow in their hearts."

The representative of the Sikh community, Sardar Gurunam Singh Vora, told the children about the five Ks of his religion i.e. Kesh (uncut hair), Kangha (wooden comb), Kachcha (specially made cotton underwear), Kada (an iron bracelet) and Kirpan (sabre).
Roy Demonty, who represented the Christian community said  “Jesus’ love is unconditional and sacrificing all for the safety of the people on earth.’’

Anis Chisti, a representative of the Muslim community said, “I will just advise each person here to make friends among all religions without having any differences.’’

In conclusion, religious teacher Pandit Vasant Gadgil said, “All religions are equal and are great in their respective way. Hence, one should not have any differences or negative feelings about
each other.’’
