Charity agencies, use this trend to demonstrate the social consciousness of society at large. Rajeev Kulkarni, manager, (resource mobilisation) of Help Age India said cards are doing brisk business during the festive season. The money generated is used to finance their projects. However, Kulkarni, claimed that people who order cards in bulk from them expect substantial discounts, which affects their economics.
Priya Patil, co-ordinator CRY, Pune said, “The cards and stationery that bears our name and gives us royalty works in two ways. There is the financial aspect and the other equally important aspect is that of awareness. With each card, at least two people are made aware about the organisation and our work. This also helps us indirectly.’’ Surekha Kardale, a student, said, “I buy charity cards, because I hope some amount will go to the needy.’’
“People actually take efforts to select charity cards. This shows there is care and attention that people have for the neglected people. It is a good sign and this year, a lot of charity cards have been sold out,’’ says Dilip Jadhav, owner of Greetwell. Seconding the opinion, Bharat Shah, owner of Archies franchisee on Fergusson College Road says, “There has been a rise in the sale of charity cards lately. With the Diwali season, for the last 20 days, there has been a 20% rise in the sale of cards, especially, the
charity ones.’’
