The Pune Cantonment area, already plagued by poor condition of roads filled with potholes, now has to cope up with broken drainages in the area.

A case in point is the broken drainage near the Mahatma Gandhi bus terminal. With the area waterlogged due to the spillover of the sewage water, the local residents are having a tough time.

What is more agonising for the hapless residents is the fact that although the Pune Cantonment Board (PCB) started the repairs of the drain on Monday, it was stopped after a few hours due to some technical glitch.

“We are unable to locate the main line and the chamber of the drain since it is an old drain laid in the pre-independence period,” PCB executive engineer Kiran Vasant Shirodkar told DNA, adding that there are a couple of other places wherein the drainage has broken, but the chambers cannot be located.

PCB officials are now planning to seek help of some retired employees of the department to help them trace the chamber.

“Since we cannot find the chambers, we have stopped the work. We will take the help of our old (retired) employees to trace it. We assure that the work will be completed,” asserted Shirodkar.
