A six-year-old boy was killed after falling into a water tank of a building that was under construction in Andheri on Sunday.

According to police inspector Vijay Kadam of Amboli police station, the incident occurred on Sunday evening at Acme Sudarshan society, located near Azad Nagar area of Andheri (West). “The victim Roshan Sonar, stayed there with his parents, where his father worked as a watchman,” added Kadam. The officials say that the site is almost complete and the flat possession is being given to the buyers.
The initial investigation by the police revealed that on Sunday afternoon the victim’s father Prakash and one of his subordinates opened the lid of the water tank, for filling it with water from the tanker. The tankers’s driver also helped the duo in removing the lid., the officials added.
The officials said that the trio left the lid open and forgot about all about it and did not close it. Roshan, who was sleeping at the hut, without the his mother’s knowledge got up and started playing. He went near the water tanker and reportedly fell into it.
The investigators also revealed that when the mother woke up from her sleep in the evening she looked everywhere for her son, but he could not be traced. Finally, his body was found inside the water tank. He was rushed to the Cooper hospital, where he was declared dead before admission, by the hospital authorities. The post mortem report declared drowning as the reason of his death.
Based on the complaint lodged by Prakash, the police registered an FIR against the builder and the contractor. However, they will be arrested only after the investigation is completed.
The police sources say that it was Prakash, his subordinate and the tanker driver who were negligent because they did not put the lid back on the water tank. “If the negligence on their part is proved, they trio will be booked in this case,” said the source.
The police are now in the process of recording the statements of the trio as well as the builder and the contractor.
