The Social Service Branch (SSB), along with the local police, conducted raids at two bars in Malad and Borivli area on Monday night and rescued 16 girls. Eleven people, including bar managers, were arrested for carrying out illegal activities.

“Acting on a tip off, we raided Nityanand Bar located on the SV Road in Borivli (West) around 10.30pm and found 10 girls inside the bar. The bar was dimly lit and the girls were shown to the customers on the flashlight of the mobile phone,” said assistant police commissioner Vasant Dhoble of the SSB.

“Once the customers select the girl, they indulge in immoral activities. We have arrested the bar manager, cashier and the operator,” said Dhoble.

The second raid was carried out around 1.10am on Tuesday in Swagatam Orchestra bar at Malad (West). “We have arrested 8 people, including the manager and waiters, in this bar and rescued six women,” he said.

“We found a different modus operandi here. The women were sitting in autorickshaws  outside the bar. Then they lure customers and later accompany them to the bar,” said Dhoble.
“We found three girls outside bar sitting in an auto and three were inside the bar. We got the information that bar girls wait in autorickshaws outside the bar and when their customer came they went inside with them,” said Dhoble.

The arrested persons have been handed over to the local police. “The women were sent for medical examination. They would be sent to the women’s shelter home,” added Dhoble.
