Fed up of the frequent quarrels with her husband, a bar girl, Fatima Hussain, allegedly paid her cousins Rs30,000 to kill him. Police arrested the two suspected killers and Fatima on Monday.

“Fatima used to work at the Guddi Bar in Andheri,” additional commissioner of police (western region) Amitabh Gupta said. “She lived with her husband, Zakir Hussain, a rickshaw driver, and their two children at Amboli.” The couple apparently used to quarrel a lot because Fatima often got calls late at night from patrons at the bar. According to police, on Sunday morning, Fatima paid her cousins, Mohsin Sadar, 23, and Mohammad Raju, 24, to kill Zakir. The same evening, the men visited Zakir’s house in an Andheri (west) slum. Fatima had gone out after sending the children away.

The duo allegedly strangled Zakir with a lungi and stabbed him with a knife. A neighbour, who heard the scuffle and found Zakir’s corpse lying in the house, alerted the police.

While investigating the case, police learnt that Mohsin used to visit Fatima regularly and that he had come calling on Sunday. “On Monday, he was picked him up from a bar where he was a waiter,” Gupta said. “Raju was arrested with his help. On interrogation, both confessed to the crime.”
