Avinash Bagwe, 35, son of former minister of state Ramesh Bagwe, who was elected from Kasewadi-Bhavani Peth panel in the Pune Municipal Corporation elections, was arrested on Tuesday for alleged involvement in manhandling policemen at a polling station in Kasewadi on Thursday.

He was produced before judicial magistrate first class VD Deshmukh and released on bail along with five others arrested in the same case on bond of Rs15,000 each.

The other arrested suspects are Vitthal Sopan Thorat, 54, Dayanand Ram Adagale, 36, Mahadev Sambhaji Waghmare, 65, Bugappa Mariappa Dhangar and Yusuf Chand Shaikh, 42.

Bagwe was arrested when he showed up at Khadak police station on Tuesday. Later, he was taken to Sassoon Hospital for a medical examination in a private car and not a police vehicle as is done with other suspects. Assistant commissioner of police, Ranjit Dhure said, “I am aware that Bagwe was taken to hospital in a car. There was no police vehicle available. Since there was a rush of his supporters, taking him out in a police vehicle was not deemed fit.”
