Three days have passed since the gruesome murder of Pune student Anuj Bidve in Greater Manchester, United Kingdom but the family is yet to receive any concrete news about the handing over of his body. Fed up with the delay and conflicting reports, Anuj’s family has decided to go to the UK and bring his body back to India.

His father, Subhash Bidve, a retired Indian Air Force staffer and brother-in-law, Rakesh Sonawane have decided to go to the UK.
“We visited the VFS Global office in Kalyaninagar and collected information on urgent visa applications. We would return tomorrow to start the visa process. We are being offered help from a lot of people abroad, friends of Anuj and strangers too, but the UK police wish to only deal with the family. To expedite the process and also complete formalities at Lancaster Universities and bring his stuff back, we would go to the UK,” said Sonawane.

Speaking about the delay in getting Anuj’s body due to pending police formalities, his family said that they were hoping that a second autopsy (required by the UK police code) would be performed by Friday.

“We are in regular touch with Kartar Singh, counsel and head of chancery, Consulate General of India, Birmingham as well as British police officials. They have intimated to us that according to police procedure there, preliminary investigations report has to be filed after which a second autopsy will be done only after which the body will be handed over. We are hoping they do so by Friday,” said Anuj’s cousin, Suruchi Wagh.

Explaining that the next three days are public holidays in the UK, they said that if the procedure isn’t completed by Friday, the wait for Anuj’s body would stretch for another week at least.
“We are just requesting everyone to expedite the process in getting his body. Many people, including politicians, have offered to help. Maybe they are trying at their own level but nothing concrete has been done so far,” said cousin Aditya Salunkhe.

On the social networking site Facebook, five groups have already been formed in Anuj’s name such as Anuj Bidve - Help Page, Justice for Anuj Bidve and Candle Light March for Anuj Bidve.
