Formed on September 15, 1980, AFA is a non-political body with a mandate to promote the welfare of retired air force personnel, their families and families of those who are deceased.

On the occasion of 31st anniversary of establishment of Air Force Association (AFA), the western zone branch of AFA organised a wreath laying ceremony at the MiG Triangle at air force station Lohegaon on Thursday.
President of the western zone of AFA, Group Captain (retd) YS Marwa, did the honours. Formed on September 15, 1980, AFA is a non-political body with a mandate to promote the welfare of retired air force personnel, their families and families of those who are deceased.
The organisation looks after the financial needs of retired personnel by giving funds for businesses, offering scholarships to deserving wards and conducting several social welfare activities.
The organisation is funded by voluntary contributions of retired air force personnel and through the nominal lifetime membership fee.
In addition, to offer support to the fraternity for pension related issues, the AFA has a financial advisor on board as well as a legal advisor from the legal cell of the Southern Command for legal advice and support. The AFA has more than 60,000 members with 18 branches in various state capitals and two branches in foreign countries.
