The VP Road police recently arrested four persons for allegedly duping a student on the pretext of promising him admission in renowned college at Charni Road. The arrested persons had also allegedly given fake admission receipt to the victim, in order to gain his confidence.

The college authorities grew suspicious about the receipt on seeing the rubber stamp, which had misspelled the college name. “We were alarmed on seeing that the student had applied under a ‘new management’ category, which does not exist in our college,” said the college principal.

According to the police sources, complainant Aiyaz Deraiya completed his HSC in Commerce stream in 2010-11 and but could not get admission in any of the colleges he tried. He was approached by a man who identified himself as Huseifa and assured him of an admission after he submitted his documents and gave him an admission fee slip of Rs33,000.

On July 16, Huseifa and Shafiq gave Deraiya a receipt of Rs2.44 lakh, including donations. “On June 18 when Deraiya went to college office and showed receipt, he was told that the receipt was bogus. He then lodged a police complaint, following which we nabbed the persons involved,” said an officer from VP Road police station.
