With a 28% increase in the registration for the NMIMS Aptitude Test (NMAT), the competition for MBA seats in the Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS) is set to get tougher.

This year will see more than  70 students competing for one seat, with around 51,000 registrations recorded for NMAT, in comparison to around 40,000 registrations last year for 500 seats.

The regular registration for NMAT, the admission test for NMIMS MBA programmes closed on October 10, registering 51,003 candidates. With late registrations on till October 20, expect more footfalls at the registration window.

Dr Rajan Saxena, vice-chancellor, NMIMS University, insisted the trend meant that candidates were more confident to face the NMAT.

“Although there is an increase in registration, we have no plans to increase the number of seats. In fact, it is a positive step toward raising our quality standards. With so many students appearing for NMAT for similar number of seats, the competition is certainly going to be tougher. But it will ensure that only students meeting a certain standard alone get through,” he added.

Besides, there is not going to be any change in the test levels, viz group discussions and personal interview. “We are confident about our entire entrance test format of written test followed by group discussion and personal interview. There is no need to bring any changes to the existing pattern to select the best from the huge lot,” said Saxena.

The test will be conducted over a period of three months, starting October 31, allowing the choice of two retakes to the students.
