40% bogies be reserved for ladies in suburban trains: Rail Parishad

The Parishad demanded that local services of the suburban section be extended to Dahanu immediately and the nine coach rakes be converted to either 12 or 15 as there was a steep increase in the commuters using these services.

A Rail Parishad here has demanded that at least 40% bogies to be reserved for ladies in suburban trains in Mumbai.
    
Ram Naik, the former railway minister presided over the Parishad which was attended by thousands of commuters from the western belt of this district.
    
BJP MLA Chintaman Wanga inaugurated the conference held at Nallasopara in which more than 300 memorandums were received.
    
Besides, increase in number of ladies special and an independent bogie for senior citizens, the Parishad demanded that local services of the suburban section be extended to Dahanu immediately and the nine coach rakes be converted to either 12 or 15 as there was a steep increase in the commuters
using these services. Also, they wanted that 40% bogies be reserved for women.
    
They pointed out that the deaths on railways was a matter of serious concern as the height of platforms were too low and during the last three years alone, a total of 7378 persons died in accidents and this was 2426 in 2010, they pointed out.
    
The other demand was related to running services between Dahanu and Thane, Panvel and CST. The meeting also demanded that the work on Virar east west bridge, and the bridges Dahanukankarwadi over bridge
and the bridge at Vangaon be completed at the earliest.
    
Senior BJP leader Manisha Chowdhary and MLC of Konkan graduates constituency Sanjay Kelkar were the chief guests.
