35-year-old held for kidnapping lover’s son in Mumbai

The Cuffe Parade police have arrested a 35-year-old man for allegedly kidnapping the 10-year-old son of his girlfriend. The housewife was allegedly having an affair with the accused but refused to marry him as she could not separate from her son. The angry lover then kidnapped the son and threatened to kill him, if she refused to marry him. She then lodged a complaint with the police, and within a few hours he was apprehended.

The arrested person has been identified as Mohammad Hamid Shaikh, a resident of Cuffe Parade area. According to the police sources, the complainant is a 36-year-old housewife. “Shaikh and the complainant had been having an extra-marital affair for the few last few years and Shaikh wanted to marry her. Since the complainant had the responsibility of her son, she had been turning down Shaikh’s marriage proposal,” said an officer from the Cuffe Parade police station, requesting anonymity.

He added that, Shaikh, on Friday evening, abducted the boy from the Cuffe Parade area. After a few hours, he called the complainant. “Over the phone, Shaikh threatened the victim saying that he had kidnapped her son and if she refused to marry him, he would kill him,” the officer said.

The victim then lodged a complaint with the Cuffe Parade police station. “We traced the call to a residence in Saki Naka and within few hours of the complaint being lodged, the child was rescued from Shaikh’s custody,” said another police officer.
