They are unaware of the nitty-gritty of the Lok Pal Bill, but that has not deterred them from staging a protest in support of the septuagenarian Gandhian, Anna Hazare.

More than 300 commercial sex workers (CSWs) of Budhwar Peth on Thursday held demonstrations in support of the anti-corruption crusader near Rameshwar Market building, sporting black ribbons on their arms.

According to some of these CSWs, they have been watching news on television channels and seeing huge crowds in front of Tihar Jail, where Hazare has started his fast.

“When they realised that Anna is fasting to weed out corruption from the country, they instantly decided to support the cause. They too have been victims of corruption in some way or the other,’’ said Seema Waghmode, director of NGO Kayakalp, which is working for the welfare of CSWs.

One CSW said, “Unfortunately, we have been forced into the flesh trade for economic reasons. But our conscience is clear and we have to support Anna who, despite his advancing age, is fighting for the people of the country.’’
Another CSW complimented Hazare for his struggle to ensure a better India for the young generation.
