3 back-to-back break-ins in Mumbai suburbs

Western suburbs have witnessed three major cases of break-ins at the very onset of monsoon. On Sunday morning, the cases were registered at Dindoshi, Amboli and Malwani police stations respectively.

In the first case, registered at Dindoshi police station, some people entered a mobile store through the main door, with the help of duplicate keys and made away with 42 mobiles worth Rs50,000. The China manufactured mobiles were stolen on Friday at 11pm. The complainant, Shadaab Ansari, 29, is the owner of the mobile store, Shahid Communications, in which the incident took place.

In the second incident in Amboli, the burglars entered the flat of Pankaj Shah, 53, a resident of Azad Nagar in Andheri (West) by breaking the main door lock. They broke the cupboard and sped away with cash and ornaments worth Rs11,66,000 on Saturday between 11am and 2 pm. Shah’s neighbours claimed that they have not seen any suspicious people entering or leaving the building premises.

The third case, reported on Sunday at Malwani police station, witnessed the burglars entering the house of Rahim Kashmiri, 30, through the window. The burglars broke the cupboard lock and took away gold ornaments and a Nokia handset worth Rs 75,000.

The number of thefts, house break-ins and robberies in the western suburbs has gone up in last two years. The reason, police say, is because a number of people under the pressure to earn some easy money. “And as people of higher income group, coming from different states, are settling in areas beyond Andheri, the robbers assume that one robbery would fetch them a lot of money,” said a police inspector.
