255 establishments served notices

The state labour department has registered complaints against 255 establishments across Maharashtra for not following the notification issued by the labour department to give paid leave to the employees on Tuesday to facilitate them cast their vote in the assembly elections.

The complaints are being forwarded to the concerned election machinery, who is expected to serve notices to the establishments. Labour commissioner Arvind Kumar said that complaints were registered on the basis of information received from various employees unions.

“Of the 225 establishments, 100 each are in Mumbai and Pune and 29 are in Thane. The complaints have been forwarded to various machineries including chief electoral officer, collectors concerned and they are expected to take action under Representation of People’s Act.”
Kumar said that the head of the establishments will be summoned. If found guilty, they will be fined upto Rs500.
