A dead body of a two-year-old boy, who was missing since Saturday afternoon, was found near creek in Goregaon on Monday morning.

Advance postmortem reports revealed that the boy died due to the drowning, but the police are investigating all possible angles. The distance from where the boy was playing before he went missing and the place where the body was recovered is around 500-meter-long. Thus, the police assumed that he could not have gone alone.

The deceased, Prince Shyamlal Patel, was a resident of Mahalaxmi chawl in Goregaon. On Saturday afternoon, Prince went missing while playing with four other children of the area. The family members, after being unable to find him, lodged a complaint in the Bangur nagar police station.

"On Monday morning, a resident of the same area had gone near the creek and saw the body of small boy. He then informed to police and the boy's family members. The body was identified and rushed to Bhagwati hospital for postmortem," said a police officer.

"There are no injury marks on the body and advance postmortem reports revealed the cause of death is drowning. We have thus registered an accidental death," said senior police inspector, Ramesh Kadam of the Bangur nagar police station.

However, he said, "Looking the distance from victim's resident and the spot where the body was recovered, we are questioning people in the area to find out the truth from all possible angels."

"The family members and neighbours claimed it was not a case of drowning because the boy was very small and could not have walked alone 500 meters till creek. So it could be possible that some one picked up the boy and threw him in the creek due to which he died," said one of the neighbours.

"We are also trying to probe if there were any enemies of the deceased's family in the area," said Kadam.
