A 1993 bomb blast convict and former associate of fugitive gangster Dawood Ibrahim is still throwing his weight around in the crime world. The Samta Nagar police recently filed a complaint against Manoj alias Munna Gupta and his three accomplices for allegedly kidnapping and assaulting a businessman.

According to police, on August 26, complainant Safdar Hussain Sabbir Hussain Sayyad, 42, a resident of South Mumbai, was forcibly abducted by four men, including Gupta, near Ashoka Shopping Centre, which is a stone’s throw away from the Mumbai police headquarters at Crawford Market.

“They forced him into a car and drove the vehicle towards Khar, Bhimandi, Mira Road and finally confined him in a flat at Kandivli. There, they allegedly attacked him with a knife,” said police inspector Vinayak Mule from Samata Nagar police station.

The victim told police that, on August 27, when the attackers had left him alone at the Kandivli flat, he rang up the police control room from his mobile phone and alerted them about his alleged kidnap.

“The police then reached the spot and arrested one of the alleged kidnappers Dyanesh Gupta and rescued Sayyad. We are on the lookout for the other three kidnappers. Preliminary investigations have revealed that the victim and Manoj had some monetary dispute that led to the incident,” said Mule.
