1,033 Maharashtra police stations to be e-connected by March 2012

To analyse and access the voluminous data of crimes and criminals easily, as many as 1,033 police stations will be interconnected with the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and System.

In order to analyse and access the voluminous data of crimes and criminals at the click of a mouse, as many as 1,033 police stations in the state will be interconnected with the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and System (CCTNS) by March 2012.

The Rs2,000-crore CCTNS project is being implemented by the Union home ministry and National Crime Record Bureau across the country through which around 14,000 police stations will be connected with computer networking.

Speaking to the media at the crime investigation department (CID) headquarters on Monday, additional director general (CID) Ashok Dhivare said, “Over 600 supervisory offices will be connected through the computer network and over 73% officers and 51% police personnel have undergone training for the project’s smooth implementation.”

According to him, the CCTNS will have details like first information report, charge sheet, complete information about the criminal, panchanamas and status of cases.

It will also help in making  paperless the work at the police stations in the state. Meanwhile, the 9th Maharashtra state police duty meet will be held in Nashik on December 1. Yashwantrao Chavan Open University (Nashik) vice chancellor R Krushnakumar will inaugurate the meet.

Director general of police K Subramanium will present awards to the winners at Maharashtra  Police Academy in Nashik on December 4.

During the meet, officers will show their skills in contests related to scientific aid to investigation, police photography, police videography, computer awareness, anti-sabotage check and dog squad.
