Mount Litera School International in Bandra Kurla Complex on Friday hosted a unique event with celebrity chef Maria Goretti on the occasion of Mother's Day. The idea behind the event at the leading IB school was to conduct a special workshop for mothers on cooking "Healthy Alternatives to Junk Food".

The session was specially curated to introduce mothers to nutritious alternatives that are quick, healthy and a favourite amongst kids.

Goretti introduced the participants to tasty and nutritious alternatives to fried snacks. Among other things, she showed women how to make pancakes healthy by making them with Ragi flour, eggs, curd and milk. She encouraged the attendees to try their hands at innovative substitutes, such as using whipped soy cream instead of regular calorie-laden cream.

"I feel that as parents and mothers we are constantly battling huge advertising that tell kids how eating chips is so much fun or how a big dollop of sauce is going to make their food even more tastier; basically promoting packaged food over fresh food that we mums so painstaking make. Hence, I think this initiative on Mother's Day where we pull in all our resources and try and help each other out for making food healthy for our kids is really great to be associated with," said Goretti.
