In a case of road rage, a 25-year-old freelance assistant director, was allegedly abused and manhandled by "VIP security guards" at a traffic signal in Khar (W) on Monday. The irate victim put it out on social networking sites, following which, he registered a complaint with the police.

According to the victim Ravi Shankar, the incident happened at the Citi Walk Signal at Linking Road, where he had stopped his bike at the signal. In his Facebook post, Shankar wrote, "A white Innova pulled behind my bike and started honking incessantly. Some of us tried to move aside. When the driver started coming closer to me, I looked behind and asked him why should motorists give him way when the signal is red."

Following this, one of the security guards pulled out a lathi and hit him on his back. Then the car drove away. Shankar followed the Innova and shouted at them to pull over. "When they finally pulled over, I walked towards them and confronted the guard who hit me. The guard was accompanied by another person, who had a gun. Both of them told me that the vehicle belonged to a VIP. The other guy threatened me by saying, I was lucky they used a lathi and not the gun. I reacted to this, after which they kept quiet," wrote Shankar.

The Khar police registered a non cognisable offence and not an FIR. "The assault mark is visible on my back. But the police said that there is no evidence of any assault and decided to register only an NC," Shankar told dna.

Confirming the incident, Dattatray Bhargude, senior PI of Khar police, said, "We will convert the case into an FIR if required. We are investigating the case and will be tracing the occupant of the vehicle. Once that is done, we will take statements from the guards in question."
