The 30-year-old man who murdered a senior citizen couple in their Vangaon bungalow has told the police that after killing the two, he spent the night there, having food and drinking whiskey, watching TV as their bodies lay there. He has also claimed that this was an act of revenge as the couple had humiliated him, the son of their former security guard, and thrown him out of their house 15 years ago.

Ravi Thakur, 30, was arrested from Surat after the police tracked his mobile tower locations and the cell phone which he had stolen from the house of Nargis and Naushir Irani. Thakur failed to kill the couple twice, but succeeded on the third attempt. He first killed Nargis, 74, while she was returning home after an evening walk. Later, he entered the house where he saw Naushir,76, on the dining table. Thakur first hit Naushir with a bamboo and then slashed him with a sharp weapon.

"Thakur first snapped the electricity line expecting the couple to come out of their home, but the bungalow had an inverter connection. The second time he pretended to be a friend of a relative and knocked on the door but the couple turned him away," said a police officer.

"In the third attempt, he managed to kill the duo and revealed that after the killing he spent an entire night inside the house, ate dinner, drank whiskey and watched TV as the bodies were lying beside him. He also ate chickoos which were kept on the table," said the official.

"The accused was in urgent need of money and had loans to pay. He was also unable to pay his rent, so he decided to steal and take revenge for the way the family insulted him when he was caught stealing and was thrown out of the house 15 years back," said Suvez Haque, superintendent of Palghar police.

"We have arrested him under sections 302 (murder) and 460 (house breaking) of the Indian Penal code. He had managed to steal 15,000 cash as the couple kept all their valuables in a bank," said Haque.

When produced before the Palghar court, he was remanded to police custody up to December 24.
