According to the doctors, milk should not get spoil easily but due to the demand and supply, the traders might be using the adulterant in order to keep prolonged shelf-life of the milk.
While the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) department of Maharashtra suspect that the adulterated milk they destroyed contains sucrose, maltodextrin or ammonium sulfate, food addictive elements in form of adulteration, the doctors in the city stated that it becomes difficult to clinical diagnose that the patient is suffering stomach because of adulterated milk.
According to the doctors, milk should not get spoil easily but due to the demand and supply, the traders might be using the adulterant in order to keep prolonged shelf-life of the milk.
Most of the time, the side-effect of the adulterated food product is stomach upset. Dr Ushakiran Sisodia, a dietitian at Nanavati Hospital, said, “People mainly suffer from stomach and allergy. Elements like sucrose are used to give a particular sweetness taste to the food product. Maltodextrin is used as a food addictive in packet food. This food addictive gives taste to the food.”
She added, “There are no particular clinical symptoms to diagnose that the patient is suffering because of consuming adulterated milk or milk product. Usually, no one doubt on the milk consumed in the daily routine that can be adulterated.” As per the doctors, there is no immediate effect due to the milk adulteration.
Minal Shah, senior dietician at Fortis Hospital, said, “It is easily available in the market and consumed traditionally in various forms. Milk is a substance which mainly contributes to a variety of food we consume in our daily life and.
The milk which comes to the door-step can see tested at home by a various method listed by the FDA and other food security authority.”
