Unidentified man dies in hit and run accident

An unidentified man, aged between 35 and 40 years, died after he was hit by a school bus at Koparkhairane on Friday. The accident took place around 8 pm near the MSEB Chowk.According to the police, the victim was walking along the road when he was hit by the yellow bus from the rear. He fell down and came directly under wheels of the bus.

"The victim suffered severe injuries in various parts of his body. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, but was announced dead on arrival. We later sent his body to the NMMC hospital in Vashi for postmortem, the reports of which are yet to come," said a police officer from Koparkhairane police station.

The police have not recovered any identity proof from the victim's belongings. It is suspected that he was a resident of Navi Mumbai."A few local residents spotted the bus leaving the spot immediately after the accident, but they could not note down its registration number. We are now examining the CCTV footages of nearby junctions to get some details about the bus. The investigation is ongoing and we and hope to solve it soon" the police officer said.The police have registered a case under sections 304a, 279 of the Indian Penal Code and sections 184 and 134 of the Motor Vehicle Act.
