Two eunuchs have been arrested for allegedly attacking and robbing a Nalasopara couple on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway on Friday night.

According to the Valiv police, their investigations following the account of the incident by the couple, led to an area near Vasai where the eunuchs operated a sex racket.

The police gave the names of the two accused as Jyoti Pathan, 30, and Asha Chauhan, 30. They have been identified by the couple, Kamal and Trupti Rathod.

The Rathods were riding to a restaurant for dinner when they were waylaid. The eunuchs beat up Kamal with a stick and when he dropped unconscious, they snatched away the ornaments Trupti was wearing and escaped on the couple's two-wheeler. The cops have not recovered the ornaments yet.

The couple said that some passersby and even policemen driving by in a vehicle, ignored their pleas for help. However, a youth stopped and helped them to get to a hospital, where Kamal received 15 stitches. Trupti also suffered injuries on her back.

The youth, Saurabh Paul, also managed to trace the two-wheeler which was abandoned by the eunuchs a short distance away.

The eunuchs have been charged under section 394 of the Indian Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt and committing robbery. They will be produced in court on Monday.
