Narrowing down further on share-a-taxi and share-an-auto plans in the city, taxi aggregator Uber has announced competitively-priced pool schemes for train commuters. According to the new scheme, Uber pool, a cab sharing alternative will be made available specifically to passengers traveling between stations and the city’s regularly frequented business districts. Uber will charge a flat Rs 40 for a single ride to provide “last mile connectivity to daily commuters”.

The three railway stations targeted for the scheme are Bandra (East), Churchgate and Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus. From Bandra Station, passengers can get a ride to Bandra Kurla Complex, and back. Public transport authorities are grappling with the problem to cater to commuter rush between Bandra and Bandra Kurla Complex.

Similarly, commuters getting off at Churchgate and CST stations rush to nearby office complexes either in buses or sharing taxis or walk. A passenger will pay a minimum fare of Rs 40 for a six-kilometre ride.

A clear indication that the move is aimed at the  share-a-taxi and share-an-auto business as well as BEST buses is that the feature will be available during certain hours of the day.
