On a day when Prime Minister Narendra Modi was in Maharashtra, Shiv Sena president Uddhav Thackeray attacked the BJP-led regimes in the state and the Centre over poor implementation of welfare schemes and dismissed talks of an alliance between the two parties.

"Let the talks of an alliance go to hell (khaddyat), look after the farmers first. Only announcements will not help. Why are you making so many announcements when your government has only a few days left," said Uddhav in a direct attack on Modi, who was at a public function in Solapur.

Uddhav, who was speaking at a public meeting in Beed, lashed out at the Central and state governments for failing to keep their promises like affordable housing and said the Centre's team that visited Marathwada to take stock of the drought situation had failed to ensure lasting relief.

"How many of you got subsidised gas cylinders under the Ujjwala scheme," Uddhav asked the women present at the rally. He also presented a farmer who claimed that despite getting a certificate for loan waiver, he never got the benefit of the state government's farm loan waiver scheme. However, the state government later clarified that the Rs 98,687 worth loan taken by the farmer in 2014 had been written off.

Accusing the state government of presenting "fake" numbers pertaining to loan waiver, Uddhav said the benefits were yet to percolate to even those farmers who were eligible. "We are in power but have not forgotten our sense of responsibility," said the Shiv Sena president, who also recounted the drought-relief works undertaken on behalf of the party. He also said that he 'smelt a scam in the crop insurance scheme'.

Uddhav lashed out at Modi over the construction of the Ram Temple at Ayodhya and questioned why the issue found a mention in the BJP's manifesto if it was to be decided by the courts. "Har Hindu ki ek pukar — pehle mandir, phir sarkar (This is the call of every Hindu — first the temple and then the government)," he added.

"I am giving an ultimatum to my own government. Stop this deluge of announcements... ensure that your promises are implemented," said Uddhav.
