Byculla police are on the lookout for three persons who allegedly duped several people to the tune of around Rs 96 lakh, on the pretext of providing them affordable homes with zero interest on easy monthly instalments (EMIs).
According to the police, between March 2011 and November 2017, the accused persons had opened a construction-cum-finance agency at Husseina Mansion building at Tadwadi in Mazagaon.
“As per the victims, the suspects had assured them cheap houses at low EMIs. The accused persons had also promised victims that they would complete their housing project within three years,” said an officer from Byculla police station.
He added, after receiving around Rs 96 lakh from the victims, the accused shut down their operations and went into hiding.
“Complainant in the case is one of the victims Shakeel Ali Roowala, 53, who had invested Rs 2.93 lakh. We have registered a case under section 420 (cheating) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code and are making all efforts to trace the suspects,” said the officer.
