"Aperture, shutter speed, ISO and lens are few words which are now my tool and I am completely dependent on them," says Seema Rajeshirke, a Brahmand resident.

Apart from dutifully doing her household work, this housewife is also following her passion of photography. It all started in 2013 when Rajeshirke couldn't get enough of photography. Now, she will be holding a solo exhibition of her photographs at Thane Kala Bhavan from November 21 to 23.

Known in her housing society for being a window photographer, the Thanekar credits her husband and kids for her achievement.

She shares, "My husband bought a camera for the kids and was explaining them to take photographs as lots of birds are spotted in and around our balcony. He was giving detailed information about settings and also on how and when the photograph needs to be clicked. I overheard the conversation and after my kids encouraged me, I tried clicking a few photos and since then there has been no turning back.

Rajeshirke had spotted more than 40 species of birds among which many are rare ones. She adds, "My home is very close to nature and even I am surprised that till now I had not known that my surrounding is home to so many beautiful birds."

Thane creek is an important bird conservation sites, with rich natural resources and mangroves, the creek is home to more than 200 species of birds. Ghodbunder Road parallel to Thane creek is home to these 200 species of birds that change direction every season.

"My hobby is not only limited to clicking photographs, instead I make sure to read about different bird and species and gather all information about them. Bird photography is not easy as you need passion to wait for them to come and click. I finish my household work and then sit with the camera waiting for the birds to come. I also refer to books to get more knowledge about birds found in Indian sub-continent," she adds.
Encouraging other housewives to take up their passion, she says, "I want people to know that despite being a housewife, we can bring excitement in our sedentary life."
