Four days after the flying squad of the Regional Transport Office Andheri seized a Mercedes Maybach S 500 car on Saturday for non-payment of road and registration tax in Maharashtra, the matter seems to be close to a resolution. Speaking to DNA, Govind Saindane, regional transport officer, Andheri said, "The team from Super Cassettes have told us that they are willing to pay the tax we have demanded. They are expected to come to the RTO on Thursday and work out the tax calculations and payment."

The car, belonging to Super Cassette Industries, owners of the T-series trademark, and being used by the company's owner Bhushan Kumar, has a Puducherry registration (PY 05 A 4040). The car was seized because if the car is being used in Mumbai, then under the Maharashtra Motor Vehicles, the road tax has to be paid here.

"There are several such cars plying on the streets of Mumbai whose owners are bonafide residents of Mumbai but have registered their cars showing temporary addresses in other states where road tax is lower than Maharashtra. However the owners of these cars use them on Mumbai's roads so it is only natural that tax should come into the state's coffers," a transport official said.

An official spokesperson speaking on behalf of Bhushan Kumar had told DNA on Sunday that the car belonged to the company and was bought in Delhi.
