After producing a 45-minute documentary on violence against women, Mumbai-based filmmaker Vibha Bakshi is set to release another documentary in March next year. The documentary is about real heroes who fought against such violence in rural areas of the country.

Bakshi spoke about her upcoming documentary in the ‘WeUNite’ conference organised by the Indian Merchants Chamber and UN Women at Colaba on Tuesday.

Speaking about her upcoming documentary ‘Sons of India’ and what she was trying to portray, Bakshi, said, “The film will take forward the previous documentary. We will be highlighting the boys and men who stood up strong and fought against the violence women are being subjected to. We need to involve them to strengthen the fight. The documentary is shot in the rural villages of Haryana which has the worst female to male population ratio. We will be portraying the real life story of ordinary men doing extraordinary work related to social issues.”

Vibha’s documentary ‘Daughters of Mother India’, received the National Award from the President for Best Film on Social Issues in 2015. Over 200 screenings have been held all over the world. “The film was made into a movement by the people. Many cases were registered after the Nirbhaya case. Currently, over 200 schools have this documentary as part of their extracurricular studies. It was the first time film crew members were allowed inside the New Delhi PCR,” she added.
