Hindustani music stalwarts Pandit Jasraj, Ustad Rashid Khan, Pandit Satish Vyas, Kala Ramnath, Aarti Ankalikar- Tikekar, Pandit Ajay Pohankar, Milind Chittal and S Akash will perform at the 36th Gunidas Sangeet Sammelan.
The three-day festival will be held at the Nehru Centre Auditorium from December 6.The festival will commence with violin player Kala Ramnath from the Mewati gharana. Tutored by violin legends such as grandfather Narayan Iyer and aunt Dr N Rajam, she’s since trained with Mewati vocal maestro Pandit Jasraj. Known for her rare vocal emotionalism in violin playing characterised by a great command over rhythm, richness and clarity in pitch and tone, she is much sought-after for her prowess.She will be followed by Ustad Rashid Khan. His melodious voice with superb flexibility has seen him appeal to music lovers across the spectrum.
On Friday, the audience will be enthralled by vocalist Arati Ankalikar-Tikekar known for her electric style. Her singing is a rare combination of great qualities from various gharanas. She will be followed by child prodigy flautist S Akash from Bangalore.
The evening will end with the velvety vocals of Pandit Pohankar, a living legend given his prowess in both the classical and semi-classical genres like thumri.The final day will begin with vocalist Milind Chittal, known for his sonorous voice and excellent range. His emphatic style is the hallmark of his performances. This will be followed by the mesmerising santoor by Pandit Satish Vyas, a recipient of the Kumar Gandharva Rashtriya Samman.
