Stating that there cannot be any one political leader behind the organization of such massive silent marches of the Maratha community, former chief minister, Prithviraj Chavan, on Friday, said that it was nothing but anger and frustration of the Maratha youth against all its leaders from various political parties.

Speaking to media persons at his office in Churchgate, Chavan said that the Maratha community is taking to streets with silent marches, that too in numbers exceeding lakhs. He said that the demand for reservation is justifiable since it was his cabinet who had arrived at a decision of providing reservation benefits to Maratha and Muslim communities. He said that the present government has failed to fight the case in the court of law, and has excluded the Maratha community from the benefits of reservation. He pointed out that even today, the state government does not have a full-time advocate general.

He said that whenever political leaders have tried to get mileage from these silent marches, the Maratha community youth have ridiculed them, and have kept the silent march apolitical and peaceful. Chavan pointed out that the anger of the Maratha community was triggered after the Kopardi incident, and this has led to silent marches in various cities. He said that unemployment coupled with farmers' suicides and decision of our government to bring in the Atrocities Act has led to this outcry of the Maratha community.

Chavan said that it is the educated Maratha youth who is taking the issue to the forefront by organizing such marches. He added that they have made 5000 Whatsapp groups with 250 members each, which have been formed for these silent marches. He said that there was a need for the union minister of state, Ramdas Athavale to convene an all-party meeting at the Centre, on the Atrocities Act.
