Claiming to be short of inspector general (IG) rank officials the home department has decided to call back officials, who are serving on key postings in the Centre on deputation in various agencies. To begin with the department has recalled three senior Maharashtra cadre officers which are VK Chaube, Chiranjeevi Prasad and RK Padmanabhan.

Chaube, a special IG is currently deputed at The Hague for the Ministry of External Affairs. Prasad, who is a Deputy Inspector General (DIG) with the Central Reserve Police Protection Force is currently posted in Patna, Bihar and Padmanabhan, special IG posted as Executive Director, Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi). While the first two officers come with clean antecedents, Padmanabhan is reportedly facing a CBI enquiry for his role as Sebi chief vigilance officer (CVO) in a case against Bank of Rajasthan.
When contacted KP Bakshi, additional chief secretary (home) confirmed it. "Yes we have decided to call back some of our officers who have been on deputation in central services for a long time. We have a shortage of senior officials in the Maharashtra Police. Several slots of IG rank need to be filled in," he told dna.
Bakshi, however, refused to share where exactly these three would be posted on their return. "Well that we will share once the postings are allotted," he added.
Sources said IG-level officials on deputation with the external affairs ministry will also be called back to the state police force.
Meanwhile, the department has also started a screening process of personnels at sub-inspector (SI) level for promotions. Over 300 SIs have already been screened for 154 promotions likely soon.
