Days after a hoarding with inappropriate comments against former Congress leader Narayan Rane was put up at Ganpatrao Kadam Marg in Worli Naka, allegedly by Shiv Sena spokesman Arvind Bhosale, the Worli police registered a case against Bhosale and two others for defacing public property and installing the hoarding without permission of the civic body.

According to the police, the complaint was made by senior inspector (licence department) of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).

The hoarding took a jibe at Rane’s decision of resigning from the Congress and had inappropriate comments against him. After it sparked a controversy, it was removed on Monday.

“We have registered a case under the Public Property Defacement Act. Our probe is on and we will take necessary action after conducting the inquiry. We have booked three persons including Bhosale and two others, named Dipak and Dinesh,” said Gajanan Desurkar, senior police inspector of Worli police station.

“We had removed the hoarding on Monday night as it was put up without any permission and subsequently a complaint was registered at the police station according to the orders/guidelines of the high court,” said a civic official.

Flex boards, posters and banners were put up across the city ahead of the BMC elections, and hardly any complaint was lodged by the civic administration.

So questions are being raised about what prompted the action by the BMC which involved approaching the police against this hoarding.

There are murmurs in the corridors of Mantralaya that directions were given from Mantralaya to the BMC to approach the police on this issue, considering that a Shiv Sena office bearer is involved in the Worli case and it is the Shiv Sena itself which is ruling the BMC.
