Shiv Sena MLAs rushed to the Well of the state assembly on Tuesday to raise slogans to press for immediate removal of advocate general Shreehari Aney for his statement on the need for a referendum for a separate Vidarbha state, soon after presiding officer Haribhau Bagade rejected the privilege motion moved by the party.

Soon after the question hour, when Pratap Sarnaik raised the issue of his notice for the privilege motion, Bagade rejected the privilege motion against Aney. He asked chief minister Devendra Fadnavis to make the government stand on the issue clear in the House.

The agitation outside Vidhan Bhavan and the privilege motion moved by Shiv Sena proved to be futile since Fadnavis assured the House that he would gather all the information in this regard and make a statement. When Bagade rejected the motion, Sena MLAs rushed to the Well of the House and demanded immediate removal of Aney.

MLAs Pratap Sarnaik, Arjun Khotkar, Shambhuaje Desai and others had made representation before Bagade in his chamber. In the morning, Bagade told Sarnaik that a few years ago, when the then leader in the Opposition Fadnavis had brought a privilege motion against the then advocate general Darius Khambata, Fadnavis was called by the presiding officer in the chamber and he had withdrawn the motion.

Sarnaik said he was ready to withdraw the motion provided Aney came before the House and apologised for the statement but Bagade rejected the motion.
