Maharashtra: Sharad Pawar's birthday stalls proceedings at the House

It was after NCP delegation of senior leaders, including former deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar, leader of opposition in legislative council Dhananjay Munde and leader in assembly Jayant Patil met chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday afternoon after both the Houses were adjourned for the entire day.

For enabling Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leaders to attend NCP president Sharad Pawar's birthday function at New Delhi on Thursday, the state government has decided to alter its scheduled business and to take up non-government business on Thursday.

It was after NCP delegation of senior leaders, including former deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar, leader of opposition in legislative council Dhananjay Munde and leader in assembly Jayant Patil met chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday afternoon after both the Houses were adjourned for the entire day. The non-government business or private member's bills are generally taken up on Friday so that only those members who have proposed bills can remain present and others can leave for their constituencies on Friday afternoon.

Ajit Pawar, after the meeting with CM, informed dna that he has requested the CM to take up non-government business on Thursday instead of Friday since most of the NCP leaders would be leaving for New Delhi to attend function at New Delhi. NCP president Sharad Pawar would be celebrating his 75th birthday on December 12 and there would be three functions to mark his birthday, including the first in New Delhi on December 10, the second in Mumbai on December 12 and the third one in Pune on December 20.

Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis when asked about his meeting with NCP leaders said that they had met him for a few development works in Late RR Patil's constituency. Even Ajit Pawar had maintained the same that he accompanied MLA Suman Patil (wife of Late RR Patil) for sanctioning of few development works in her constituency. Parliamentary affairs minister Girish Bapat confirmed that the legislative business for Thursday has been altered and non-governmental bills would be taken up on Thursday.
