A sessions court on Tuesday handed over a case of cheating to the Kopari police station and ordered it to get more details about it.

The case dates back to January 12. Priya Singh, a resident of the railway quarters of Dahisar check naka, had allegedly duped Raju Karogi Pujari, 52, of Manor Pada in Thane (West) of Rs50,000.

Singh had told Pujari over phone that she had contacts in various private banks and she could easily get him a loan from one of them. Pujari then agreed to meet her at Twins Bar and restaurant near Anand cinema at Kopari. When they met around 7.10pm on that day, she told Pujari that she had all the legal documents of the banks with her. A convinced Pujari handed over Rs50,000 to Singh as her fee in lieu of the documents.

Later, when Pujari realised that he was cheated with forged papers, he approached the police and lodged a complaint.

However, the court hearing went on endlessly as the police did not have much evidence in the case. The court then asked the police to come up with full-proof evidence.

An officer from Kopari police station said: "We got the court orders under Section 156 CRPC (3). We will investigate the allegations of both the parties. Till then, we cannot arrest anyone. We will get the evidence and then proceed as per the court's order."

The accused has been charged with section 415 (cheating), 416 (cheating by personation), 417 (punishment for cheating), 419 (punishment for cheating by personation), 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property), 465 (punishment for forgery), 467 (forgery of valuable security, will, etc), 469 (forgery for purpose of harming reputation) and 471 (using as genuine a forged document) of the India Penal code (IPC).
