In a tragic incident on Monday evening, a 28-year-old man died after coming in contact with a live wire on a Nalasopara electric pole which he had climbed to repair a faulty line. His charred body, which got stuck on the pole, was later brought down by fire brigade officials.

According to the Nalasopara police, the deceased, identified as Isral Shaikh, is a resident of Shirdi Nagar. A self-proclaimed electrician, Shaikh climbed the electric pole to repair a line, not knowing that there was a live wire passing next to it. Shaikh came in direct contact with the live wire and was charred completely as heavy rain kept pounding the area.

"We had asked him to not repair the line in the rain but he climbed the pole, boasting that he'll fix the problem in minutes. Unfortunately, it proved fatal," said Rekha Dwivedi, a local resident.

"We have registered a case of accidental death. After fire brigade officials brought Shaikh down, he was rushed to Alliance hospital where he was declared dead before admission. We are investigating further," said a Nalasopara police officer.
