Citing technical issues, MU has also denied ‘confidential results’ of these students

At least 28 pharmacy students from the University of Mumbai (MU) who have been selected for various post-graduate courses at the National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER) are set to lose their seats due to the delay in results.
Several students who will complete their Bachelor of Pharmacy (B Pharm) this year from different colleges affiliated to the MU have secured some of the top ranks at the joint entrance exam of NIPER, a Mohali-based institute for MBA and Masters Programmes in Pharmacy.
However, with the delay in results, students do not have their final semester mark sheets without which they are ineligible for the institute’s counselling round and would thus lose their seats.
“For the last few days, we have been running from pillar to post requesting the university officials to at least send confidential results to NIPER so that we do not lose on a year. We have only got a letter from the MU VC requesting the institute to consider our case which is of no use as they will not admit us until our Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) is as per the course requirements,” said a masters aspirant.
The counselling round for MBA students is on July 10 while that for Masters students will be held on July 17. “MU is not willing to give us even the confidential results citing technical difficulties. It is not our fault that they decided to come up with a new evaluation pattern. Why should we lose an entire year for this?” said another aspirant.
Dr Raghuram Rao, Director, NIPER said that the institute was bound to follow the norms with respect to deadlines and will not be able to give any extension to students. “Our schedule is decided in April itself. Our academic year begins from July 31 so we cannot delay the processes any further,” he added.
