The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) will finally get just over a crore out of the Rs3 crore that the prisons department owes it.
An MSRTC official said: "The prisons department owes MSRTC Rs3.09 crore for having ferried prisoners as well as prison staff from various locations of the state."
Out of this amount, Rs1,01,15,000 has been cleared for payment. The total charges were accumulated between 2006-07 and 2013-14.
The official added: "Whenever prisoners and police staff travel in MSRTC buses, a warrant is given to the bus conductor, which in turn is submitted at concerned depots. That is how the total sum is arrived at."
In 2013, the then vice chairman and managing director had written a letter asking for the payment. However, it is unclear by when will the MSRTC get the remaining dues.
