A confidential and thorough combing, in addition to security checks has been conducted along the coast of Palghar, which adjoins the international waters of Pakistan. This examination was done after the commissioner of the government railway police (GRP) alerted the anti terrorism squad (ATS) of possible terror attacks, via the sea route in the city.

During the 26/11 attacks in 2008, Pakistani terrorist Ajmal Kasab and his accomplices sailed through the international waters and entered Mumbai through the Palghar coast, which was later heavily guarded when coastal police stations were formed.

Recently, GRP commissioner Ravinder Singal shot a letter to the ATS regarding prospective suicide bombings in posh hotels and railway stations in Mumbai. There has been heavy police deployment in the sea and on roads, while every police station is conducting frequent nakabandis.

Interestingly, the superintendent of Palghar police, Suvez Haque remained tight-lipped about the matter.

A senior officer with Palghar police requested anonymity, and said: "We have a one week posting in the sea, and will have to be in the waters to check suspicious activities. This comes after a terror alert to the ATS, and various agencies are involved in this operation."

Calling the incident a confidential part of the coastal policing, Prashant Burde, inspector general from Konkan range, said: "We have been always alert regarding coastal security, and therefore cannot disclose the details of the operation."
