Students and parents have much to be grateful to their MLA, Captain R Tamil Selvan, whose intervention helped them save a lot of money.

The parents of the students of SIES school in Matunga were paying Rs10,000 a year to their private school bus operator to ferry their wards from their Sion homes to the school in Matunga. Now BEST is offering them the service for approximately Rs850 for six months. It was the MLA's intervention that made this possible.

The parents of the students of this school had been trying to get BEST to operate a bus for their children in this route for three to four months. They had also approached the newly-elected MLA from Sion constituency and requested him to speak with the school management to get this work done.

Shanka P, the father of a student in SIES school, said: "Now it has become affordable for us to send our children to school. The school bus fee that had gone up to Rs 10,000 a year, was a real burden. For the BEST bus, we only have to pay approximately Rs850 for six months. We are grateful to our MLA for having helped us in this matter."

Ramakant Srivastav, the father of another student, said: "We have been asked by the school to employ a lady to attend to kids in the BEST bus. We will need to contribute Rs30 per head monthly to pay her. We will help her to get a bus pass. She can look after the safety of our children. BEST bus service is not only safe but also affordable for middle class people like us."

Sandeep Singh Dham, general secretary, BJP, Sion-Koliwada, said: "Parents had approached our MLA, who met the school management and helped them get the service of a BEST bus. The bus service was launched on Monday from MGR Chowk in Sion Koliwada."

Manoj Varhade, BEST deputy PRO, said: "We make such facilities available to many school students. The only condition is that there should be at least 50 students to travel in a bus. This service has proved to be not just safe, but affordable as well to many parents. The school management cooperates with BEST and helps students get pass for the ferry."
