No hope of dip in max temperatures, Mumbai to reel under heat

Humidity and heat is likely to continue making Mumbaikars suffer as weathermen predict, over the next four days, the maximum temperatures would continue to be around 35 degree Celsius. However, that would feel as if temperatures are above 40 degree Celsius.

The maximum temperature in Mumbai, on Monday, was 34.8 degree Celsius while on Sunday it was 36 degree Celsius. Incidentally, in May, the maximum temperature of the city has crossed the 36 degree Celsius mark only on two occasions — 2016 (36.1 degree Celsius) and 2010 (37 degree Celsius).

"The city is likely to be partly cloudy, with a sea breeze commencing after noontime. It's this late setting of the sea breeze that has caused a spike in temperatures and heat along with high humidity," said Mahalaxmi-based Rajesh Kapadia, who runs popular weather blog "Vagaries of the Weather".

However, the good news is that the city can expect pre-monsoon showers in the first week of June. The southwest monsoons have currently advanced into South Andamans as of May 18 and will advance into the rest of the island by May 22. It will further progress into the region by May 23.

Pune too is likely to continue being very hot at around 40 degree Celsius and will see pre-monsoon thunder showers by June.
