Advent of smart phones and video games has affected our reading abilities and; nonetheless kids too, are badly affected. Nilesh Gaikwad, a Thane resident has come forward to instill book reading habit among kids across various societies in Thane. Nilesh has designed a unique concept of library for the kids and by the kids. Nilesh says "I was born and brought up in Thane Koliwada area. Since it is a slum area, I did not have access to books and library, but had deep interest in reading books. It always hurts me that no reading initiatives are taken for the kids who are often referred as future of the nation. Whatever technology comes but nothing can replace reading and we, as parents should always encourage our kids to read good books. According to me, children should not be exposed to TV, video games and mobile at a tender age and we should rather try and indulge them in reading good books."

"I never had access to books and libraries, hence, I wanted to set up a library for the kids which would be run by them. It was my unfulfilled desire that today 'Khajina bal Vachnalay' has come into existence. Through this, will set up library for the kids, in housing societies that would cooperate, across Thane," adds Nilesh.

"Children now rarely read books as they are hooked either with TV or mobile phone. In fact, in schools too, teachers promote slides and e-learning system so again, there is no book reading. But having a library in our society premises will make a difference and kids would at least flip through the pages," says Jadhav Umesh a Thane resident.

"The library for kids is an attempt to promote good books as well. Till now, the books for the kids were either based on mythology like Ramayana and Mahabhartha. But I feel there are subjects like mobile, computer websites and many others; which can be explored for the kids and made interesting. So that they can develop interest and be hooked to the books. I have approached 100 renowned writers to write books for the kids and thankfully most of them have agreed," says Nilesh.

Talking about his library and books, Nilesh says, "To set up the library we have made a packet of 200 books which could be collected from our center Vyas creations at Ghantali road, Thane, along with the set of the book there is a register and instructions, that there to be followed. Willing societies can approach and get the books which are absolutely free and those who want to donate, can donate also. This library would be run by the kids only contains book of regional as well as Hindi and English language."

Nilesh has taken a small effort to spread reading habit among your kids, so willing societies can approach and get their own library done.
