Navy fishes out body of 25-year-old who drowned in Dahisar quarry

"Sharma, a resident of Dahisar, used to work in a factory at Vaishali Nagar. He had gone for a swim at the mine filled with rainwater with three of his friends on Sunday. Sharma drowned as he didn't know how deep the quarry was," said an officer.

An Indian Navy rescue team has found the body of 25-year-old Ravi Sharma, who had drowned in a quarry at Maharashtra Mines, Vaishali Nagar, in Dahisar on Sunday. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) had requested the navy's assistance. The body has been handed over to the local authorities.

According to navy officers, INS Hamala, Malad, being the closest unit deployed a team to the site and searched till around midnight. The search was restarted early in the morning and the divers found the body around 9am on Monday. Local authorities took the body to Shatabdi Hospital in Kandivli, where doctors declared the person dead.

When his friends saw that he was drowning, they alerted the authorities, the police said.

Sharma's body has been handed over to his family.
