Navi Mumbai is soon going to witness its first international film festival, where around 40 movies from across the globe will be screened. The first edition of Navi Mumbai International Film Festival (NMIFF) will be held from January 31 to February 2 at the DY Patil auditorium in Nerul.

“The city has everything; now the film festival would add another arena,” said Sachin Khanna, founder of NMIFF. He added that NMIFF has been founded with the idea to showcase the talent and creativity of filmmakers and give a global exposure to the budding filmmakers.

“Around 40 movies from across the globe have been lined up, apart from other highlights,” said Ashok Purang, festival director.

“The jury is the core of every film festival and NMIFF is proud of having eminent personalities on jury in its first edition,” said Purang, adding, “We have renowned directors and producers from France like Marc Baschet, in the jury. Baschet has won an Oscar for No Man’s Land and Heaven.
Before the Rain and Rain of Life are some of his acclaimed films.”

The jury also includes Imtiaz Hussain, a writer and director of national fame, known for national award winning films like Astitva and Parinda and Rohini Hattangadi, the only Indian actress to win the BAFTA award for best actress in a supporting role for her performance as Kasturba Gandhi in Gandhi.

The film entries for the festival have come in from all around the world and are segregated into three categories— student, professional and feature films with shorts, documentaries, animation, social awareness and music.

“Being so close to the festival day, NMIFF definitely has big expectations to live up to. This is our first year and we have already received a great response and support from so many people from across the world and are looking forward to a great three-day festival,” concluded Khanna.
