Around 5,000 flats in Cuffe Parade are troubled due to scarce water supply over the last month. Residents said that this has led to a jump in their bills as they are not getting sufficient water. To manage, residents are forced to procure water.

"There have been issues in water supply for a year now. In August 2018, the problem increased when they changed the timings of water supply. However, for the past one month ever since the pressure has reduced, the problem has become grave," said Padmakar Nandekar, secretary general of Cuffe Parade Residents Association (CPRA), which has around 50 buildings as its members.

Residents said that there are around five to 10 tankers that come to their buildings each day. "In our building, we get around 10 tankers on some days. The problem is so grave on some days. What is the point of paying taxes when we do not get enough water; people living in slums get all the water," said Rajesh Dalmia, resident of Jolly Maker III. He added, "Every month our expenses are increasing by Rs 1,000."

Residents said that earlier they would get water supply every day for two hours which has now reduced to one hour. "However, it is the pressure that has created the problem. The supply comes for one hour but the pressure is so low that the if it filled 10,000-litre tank in one hour earlier, now it fills up only 6,000 litre," Nandekar said.
