Despite a nationwide strike called by public transport unions, examinations of twenty-four different courses were conducted smoothly by Mumbai University on Thursday. This was possible because many autorickshaw, taxi and bus unions backed out from the strike on Wednesday and this enabled candidates to reach their examination centres without any difficulty.

University officials said the strike did not affect conduction of examinations across all 322 centres.
Since the strike was called by public transporters across the country against the proposed transport safety bill, candidates were worried about their transportation to the examination centres.
Controller of examination Dinesh Bhonde said, "We received calls in the morning from principals asking whether the candidates will be able to reach the examination centres. But we informed them that if they reach late, allow them to sit for the examination. However, no late arrival was reported by any educational institution where examinations were held. Examinations were conducted smoothly across all 322 centres. If anybody was not allowed to sit for examination because of late arrival, they can inform us."
Dr MZ Farooqui, principal of Rizvi College, said, "I did not notice any late comer in my college."
Echoing the sentiments of Farooqui, Dr Tushar Desai, principal of Ruparel College, said, "Most of the examinations were in the morning hours. But I did not receive any complaint of any student coming late. Everything went smoothly in our centre."
